<h2>A New Appointment for Ali Mearza</h2> <p>After 10 years working as a consultant in the NHS he feels ready to take on a new challenge!</p> <p>In addition to his role as consultant ophthalmic surgeon he is now responsible for the ophthalmology service which spans across 3 sites; Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, The Western Eye Hospital in Marylebone and St Marys Hospital in Paddington.</p> <p>One of the key aspects of the role is to work with the senior management team to ensure that the service provided is safe, effective and has a great level of patient satisfaction. The major challenge will be to do all of this within a finite ever decreasing budget!</p> <p>He will lead by example and try and improve morale and motivate the team as well as have an input into training the doctors of the future making sure they have a great training experience.</p> <p>He has always enjoyed his NHS work and likes the mix of cases that he treats both in the NHS and privately.</p> <p>His vision is to develop and improve the service making the eye department at Imperial a shining beacon in the World of ophthalmology.</p>
