Mr Mearza recently had the pleasure of visiting one of the United Arab Emirate’s premier hospitals, the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi along with two other consultant surgeons from the UK, Mr Shahram Kashani and Dr Deepak Pabari.

Completed in 2015, it is the flagship hospital of the UAE and part of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA.

Essentially, it is a unique and unparalleled extension of the United States based Cleveland Clinic’s model of care compromising a multi-disciplinary hospital designed to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for their treatment.

The hospital comprises 5 clinical floors, 3 diagnostic and treatment levels and 13 floors of critical and acute inpatient units, a state of the art lecture theatre and a simulation centre for teaching the surgeons and doctors of the future.

The 364 bed luxury hospital currently provides over 30 medical and surgical specialties with specialist centres of excellence including ophthalmology, cardiology, vascular disorders, neurological disorders, respiratory and critical care.

The architecture and facilities are unlike any other hospital in the World and shows what can be achieved where visionary architecture is combined with the healthcare requirements of a hospital and of course unlimited funds!

The result is a stunning building with an amazing viewing gallery, eateries and all the equipment and gadgets one could wish for as a clinician.

If only it could be replicated in the UK!!
